🛻 The road to the pits, busier
🛻 On the drive to the Bonsa River pits the red road has more life now: villages of mud-brick and cement houses with rusty zinc roofs and a roadside chop bar, goats wandering across, people walking the shoulder with machetes, buckets and basins on their heads, an old motorbike ahead with two men and a shovel kicking up dust, an anti-galamsey task-force checkpoint, and red dust settling on the edges of your windscreen. Near the end the land opens on the right and you see the whole mining valley below: pits of brown water, diggers, blue tarpaulin shelters, pumps and sluices, and a river run brown.
